I arrived in Istanbul in the early days of June 2013 to prepare an exhibition. The protests against the decision to build a shopping center in place of Gezi Park, in the heart of Taksim Square, had just begun. What started as a peaceful sit-in against Erdogan's government, quickly turned into a theater of police guerrilla warfare against unarmed protesters. By the end of the clashes, which lasted just under three months, the police claimed to have fired 150.000 canisters of tear gas into the crowd. The streets of the city were covered with small perforated cardboard disks, the caps of the canisters. This was my way of telling the story of what my tear-filled eyes had witnessed: 150.000 imprints of those caps.
